Fancy Schmancy

Last weekend was Brie’s Birthday, so of course we had to party it up. Her theme was Fancy Nancy, and I decorated as fancy as possible (well for me). I think it all turned out very pretty and that Brie and her cute little friends had a good time.

We painted fingernails and toenails, I read the fancy girls a Fancy Nancy book, they played with Brie’s dress up, they made their own parfaits, ate fancy cupcakes, and drank tea from a special tea set. All in all it was a busy but exciting party.

Hunny (my mom), made the invitations, the Birthday banner, and we worked together on the cupcake toppers.

For Brie’s second party (the just family party), I set up a candy bar for everyone to take home as party favors, of course you can’t go wrong with candy especially with Josh’s family.

the girls were able to wear their favors during the party we had feather boas, fancy sunglasses, bling rins, bracelets, and tiaras for them to wear.
Hunny & I also made pens with feathers for the girls to take home.

Bad Blogger Continued!

Since I never posted a first day of picture, I am going to do so now.
Brie started 1st grade this year. She is doing wonderful and is keeping us busy with her homework, dance lessons, and church.
They get a list of 8 to 10 spelling words per week and have to do different activites with these words Monday thru Thursday, while on Friday they have their spelling test.
They have to read 15 minutes at least 5 days a week.
We go to Graham for her dance classes 2 days a week, and have church on Wednesdays.
I'm just tired listing her activities, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
So without further ado, here she is...

Terrible Blogger!

So I've decided I'm the worst blogger ever!

Once again I'm going to have to do a recap of the last several months.

In July - Aug. I went on a roadtrip with my mom and one of her besties & her mom. It was loads of fun & we laughed till we cried. We drove from Olney to Kentucky to see Chylene's son Brandon who recently entered the Army. It was the family day after they were done with Basic training.

The girls!

Chylene had these cute shirts made for our roadtrip!

The handsome Army Soldier!

This summer went by way to fast, I didn't get to do half of what I wanted. I wanted to keep my nephews for a weekend during the summer, and almost waited to long. They came for a weekend at Aunt DD's in August before our vacation and before school. My oldest nephews D is in Pre-K this year. We had a blast as usual and I love spending time with them!
We played outside!!

These boys are "bests"

Watching TV

In late August before school started we were able to take a short family trip. We went to Ft. Worth for several days and enjoyed being away. We left on a Thursday and came home on Sunday. By Saturday, the kids were ready and begging to come home.

We went to the water gardens.

Catch-Up!

Here is a re-cap of the last few months. It's not much, but at least it's a post. Ha!
May was fairly busy with a Zoo trip, Brie's first track meet, my anniversary, saying goodbye to a friend, & winding up the school year.

Hunny & Poppa have been wanting to take the kids to the Ft. Worth Zoo for the past couple of years & we just never made it. This year Brie was out of school nearly every Friday in May so we all went to the zoo one of those days. Needless to say we picked the wrong weekend. It rained after we went into the MOLA Exhibit (at least it was indoors!) & poured for the longest time. We didn't even see half of the zoo so we must go back.

The kids looking at a gorilla, Brodie swore his name was Joe.

(Brodie is in love with the movie Mighty Joe Young)

Brie loves lizards, snakes, & spiders... I thought it would be cool for her to have her picture taken by the exhibit sign. She enjoyed looking at all those nasty creatures.

Of course Brie participated in the OES Track Meet, she hates to sweat so she didn't really like it. I thought she did good & told her just to have fun.

Brie's dance recital was in May too. She has come a long way since the first year of just standing on the stage & not moving at all. It helped that they danced to a Cinderella song & Beauty & the Beast song. She did really good & I was so proud of her. She is definitely my little dancing queen.

She had a great audience who came to watch her dance. My grandmother --Granny Lewis was one of those that was able to make it.

In May we had to say farewell to a family friend... more like my little brother. He joined the army and was going to Kentucky for basics, we were able to drive to Childress for a visit before he had to go.

I don't have any anniversary pictures because Josh's little brother graduated from high school on the day of our anniversary. I forgot my camera at the house, so I have no pictures. We celebrated 5 years of marriage. We did nothing special. He bought me a bakers rack (I've been wanting one) & I bought him a night stand for his side of the bed. Not anything great, but what we both wanted & needed.

Brie & her wonderful kindergarten teacher. We just loved her.

I was one of the room moms & helped serve pizza one day during the last week of school. Normally I didn't let Brodie participate because it was Brie's time, but he did for the pizza party. He thought he was just as big as those 6 year olds.

Kindergarten Zoo trip

The Olney Elementary Kindergarten classes went to the Abilene zoo a couple of weeks ago. Hunny, Nana Kay-Kay (Kay Dixon), & I all rode together. Nana couldn't resist going after her grandson, Cutter, begged her to go the night before.

Brie was SUPER excited that Hunny was going. (It was extra special having her there). It was pretty darn windy & a little cool, but I think all the kids had a great time. Hunny & I had a very small group of girls that I was in charge of from Mrs. Gibson's class that included Brie (of course), Margarita, & Julia. They were a good group & lots of fun.

I'm going to break here & tell you that after the first or second day of school Brie came home & told me there was this girl in her class whose name was "a drink that Hunny likes to drink". I was a little puzzled at first but then I got what she meant. The little girls name was Margarita..."the drink that Hunny likes". But then once I said her name, Brie said, "Yes, that's it & I bet Hunny would like to drink her!!" Oh my, where she got this I have no idea.

The morning after the zoo, Brie showed me a picture she drew when she should have been asleep. It was a picture of her trip to the zoo.

The top money looking thing is the "ticket", below that is a bird, to the left is the giraffe with it's looon tongue sticking out, below that is the alligator (I'm guessing that is it's tongue), a bird, & the lion.

Also a while back she brought home this book she made in class. It was cute, but I couldn't really tell what she was trying to say on a couple of pages. So, I asked her to read her book to me & it all clicked then!

I'm as "pretty" as a "diamond".

I'm as "hyper" as a "mouse".

& in case you were wondering the two little circles with legs are "jelly fish".
(Don't you just love the lips she draws on people??)

Confession Time!

So for Christmas I asked for a sewing machine, because I was inspired by all the things people have been sewing & making. I never really thought I'd actually get one but my husband surprised me with one. Now here it is already March & the poor little thing has yet to see daylight. So I confess, I thought I could do it, you know, actually sew something but I'm a little nervous about the whole process.

Since Brodie's birthday is coming up & he is all into Batman, I decided I'm going to ATTEMP to make superhero capes as favors.

**Since I started this post, I did try to make a cape, & it turned out ok, but not well enough to actually give someone. So I passed the project on to the person who does my sewing for me... Kay Dixon. She is my hero.

While I didn't finish making the capes, I did make a reversible bag for Brodie... I guess you might even call it his diaper bag. It is to replace the backpack we have been using for his diaper bag. I'm really proud of it, I mean it's not great, but it works & the best part is Brodie likes it a lot. I have taken pictures I will post them eventually.

Plaque

Please note that this post was written before spring break, so it's a little older. It took so long to post because I procrastinated in taking a good picture of Brie.

This post is about my sweet & funny little girl, Brie. Now you must know Brie is a freak about paper, she loves handouts, & if we go to a hotel and she sees pamphlets she MUST have a couple. She is like this with church bulletins too, it never fails if I throw one away that three or four more show up. So no you know about Brie's obsession which drives me crazy, there is paper all over the house.

So now on to the point, I have to ask, do you remember when you were in grade school & we learned about hygiene? Remember the dental hygiene experience in particular? They would tell us all about the bad stuff & give us a tooth brush & toothpaste & maybe something to color over what we learned.

Brie's class had this lesson last week. She came running to the car with a booklet about dental care & she had some toothpaste. She then proceeded to tell me all about plaque. The girl acted as though she had never heard this whole production about plaque & good dental cleaning, because she has been to the dentist for some fillings already. This weekend while we were at my mom's house, she ran around the house carrying this booklet & if anybody so much as got near the thing she would freak out. She said to my mom at some point on Saturday,"Hunny, I'm hungry for something sweet, but not too sweet because I don't want plaque."

Anyways apparently the dental hygiene lesson made an impact not just on her because a little girl she is good friends with sat with us on Sunday & we usually have candy of some kind with us because Josh is addicted to it. So he asked the little girl if she wanted any & she covered her mouth & said, "hhhmmm I can't I don't want plaque".

So I leave you with a picture of my "toothless wonder" as we call her!

Catchin Up!

I'm gonna do a recap in photos some of our happenings from December till now. I think I'm going to enjoy reminiscing through the photos!
Brie's dance class did the usual Christmas dancing at the nursing homes here in Olney. Below is the picture of some of her class. She has learned a lot so far & really seems to be enjoying it again this year.

When my brother, his wife, & their boys came in for Christmas mom wanted us all to go to the River Bend Nature Center & see their Christmas display of lights. It was really neat but VERY cold!
Hunter was upset because it was cold & we kept making him put a hat on... he did NOT like it.

Brodie & Josh cheesing for me.

Gabe & Dane

Josh was on call during Christmas & so on Christmas Eve when the big snow storm hit, he was out getting electricity back on for everybody. My parents came over & kept us company so we wouldn't have to be by ourselves.

The kids & I getting ready to go play in the snow.

We wen to Woodson (without Josh because he was on call) for Meme's (Josh's Grandma) Christmas. It's always fun getting together with all of Josh's aunts, uncles, & cousins.

Brie got a Fancy Nancy book from Meme...Brie LOVES Fancy Nancy!

Poppy got a BB gun from one of his sons, Brodie thought it was pretty cool & had to have his picture taken with Poppy & the gun.

Hunny & Brie...with her dress up kitty cat stuff.

Brie & Miss Allison... at parents observation day.

Josh's birthday was Feb. 3 (which he was on call for) so we went the Saturday after to the World of Wheels in Wichita. It was so neat & they had lots of muscle cars. (my favorite)

Hunny, Brie, & Brodie

Brie saw this Pink car... her favorite color & had to have her picture taken with it.

Brie & Poppa

I leave you with this beautiful GTO.. my second favorite muscle car.
